OUR COMMUNITY STUDIO

Various design experiences are available at our community design studio. Each experience varies in time commitment.

DESIGN EXPERIENCE NOT REQUIRED + ALL AGES WELCOME

DESIGN A DOODAD

A Design Gym series of hands-on workshops for all ages + experiences to learn about design foundation principles and demystify the design process in the disciplines of architecture, fashion, graphic + textile design, to name a few.

Flex your creativity with us!

Registration includes designer(s) introductions, instruction, materials, light refreshments AND skills/knowledge + a project to take home! 

Workshops are scheduled on weeknight and weekend days/times at least twice a month. 

OPEN TO ALL adult and youth designers.

Prior design experience is not required

STUDIO

Extended design workshop experience to explore the design process in hands-on, project-based sessions, either online or in-person, where you can keep object(s) and skills to enhance your everyday life. 

DESIGN EXPERIENCE NOT REQUIRED

Studio: Light
$245.00

A six-week course and experience to explore the design process in a hands-on, project-based design experience that allows you to be a designer in a studio setting. You will learn the design process through activities and exercises to design and build a project from concept to a final prototype, With an opportunity to present and exhibit to pupils. Each studio focuses on a different design discipline.

Object: Light

  • Two-hour weekly sessions on Tuesday evenings 6:00-8:00PM.

    Work outside of sessions expected and encouraged (approx. 2-4 hours weekly)

    • Time will vary and dependent on design(er) approach

  • Materials for early design development and light kit provided (final intended object materials not included)

Design Sprint: Product Design

Design Sprint is a short, one studio session to explore the design process with a product of your own design with coaching. We’ll provide you the framework, materials for sketching and prototyping, and guidance for this hands-on project.

What to expect: utilize the design (thinking) process to produce a product with in-studio guidance and reviews, practice sketching/drawing, and produce a prototype.

NO DESIGN EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE

Design Sprint

  • A sprint is a four (4) session

  • Prototype model making materials (I.e. cardboard), on-site tools

  • Design Process/Thinking

    • Research

    • Ideation/Brainstorming 

    • Design development

  • Maximum of six (6) designers

School Age Studio

Available on select School District of Philadelphia (SDP) half-days, we offer a hands-on, project-based design workshop that allows students to be designers in a studio. Students will learn the design process through activities and exercises to design and build a project individually and/or as a team. Each studio introduces how we see design everywhere and projects based on one or more design disciplines.

  • $45 Half-Day 12:30-3:30pm

    • All materials included

    • Includes a snack

  • $20 Extended Care 3:30-5:30pm

    • All attendees encouraged to bring a snack during Extended Care

  • Each studio has a maximum of 10 students

  • Instructors are design professionals of varied disciplines

  • Pick-up option available to Moffet Elementary School

Must register 48 hours prior to studio to be admitted. Any available seats within the 48 hours prior to studio starting will include a surcharge of $5-$15 per pass.
