  • Design Gym @ Colorspace Labs 1714 North Mascher Street Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19122 United States (map)

Let's design our own pop-up/temporary park of 140 square feet. that can fit in a PARK(ing) spot for the worldwide celebration of PARK(ing) DAY. Walk away with sketches and/or maybe even hand-built scale model.

This time is available for all of this year's teams and curious designers seeking coaching to help design and develop their own parklets for Friday, September 18, 2026. We will use the design template provided on the PARK(ing) DAY Philadelphia websie.

What is it? The number of parks throughout Philadelphia increases dramatically each year on the third Friday in September, when activists, artists, architects, and other citizens transform metered parking spaces into temporary public parks. Known as PARKing) Day, this annual event re-imagines the possibilities of 140 square feet of public space. The event is a global, public, participatory project where people across the world temporarily repurpose curbside parking spaces and convert them into public parks and social spaces to advocate for safer, greener, and more equitable streets for people.

How did it start? PARK(ing) Day was founded by Rebar, a San Francisco art and design studio, in 2005 to raise awareness of the need for green spaces in urban environments. Philadelphia celebrated PARK(ing) Day for the first time in 2008 with over 25 installations for relaxing, cycling, creating art, education, and socializing.
